Are There Ivy League Online MBA Programs?

The Ivy League is an amalgamation of eight leading Universities in the northeastern region in the United States. The Ivy League together encompasses Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University. The term is synonymous with academic excellence, social elitism, and an extremely selective admissions process based on a high GPA and extra curricular activities. However, modern trends are pushing students away from traditional campus study and into a virtual environment. This has prompted the need to host online study and distance learning options. However, do any Ivy League schools offer an online MBA program?

One of Eight: What School Offers an Online MBA Program?

The highly selective process of enrolling in an Ivy League school means that online study options are few and far between. However, Columbia University in New York City offers a fully online MBA degree for prospective students. This is the only Ivy League school that is known to outwardly offer an online MBA to the public. Other Ivy League schools, such as Harvard University, have openly declared that they will not offer online options for students in the foreseeable future.

Is Columbia’s Online MBA Program Reputable?

Columbia University’s Online MBA program is well-received by employers upon graduation with favorable statistics supporting a steady stream of employable students. However, students must be prepared to invest heavily in their future as tuition costs are above average for virtual attendance at Columbia University. This can potentially repel some students, but the prestige of attending an Ivy League school by distance can add a distinct flair to any resume!

Columbia’s components are also standardized, which means that students will receive up to date information that is relevant to current business practices and expectations throughout their academic lives. This is especially important to future business professionals who rely on modern information to see them through the latest trends.

An online environment is also a great benefit to students. The challenging scenario presents its own unique hills to climb as the student will not have a professor on hand to guide him through the entire learning process. Students must therefore assume responsibility for their own studies and ensure that they’re able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines without any intervention on behalf of teachers or fellow students. The lack of a social atmosphere may hinder some students and their progress, but there will not be much time to socialize with such a dedicated program like Columbia’s!
